The name comes from
the Greek goddess (or Titan)
Tethys, who was the daughter
of Uranus and Gaea, a sister
to Kronus and the wife
of Oceanus. She was said
to be the mother of the
chief rivers, the mother of
three thousand daughters
called the Oceanids and the
embodiment of the waters of
the world.
