Vent valve service
Refer to Troubleshooting (page 14) to
determine if vent valve is cause of failure
(† fig. 2, page 12; fig. IPB 1, page 15; and
fig. IPB 2, page 16)
1 Turn off and disconnect hydraulic and
electric power supply to pump assembly
2 Loosen vent hose (10) and supply
hose (9)
3 Remove bolts (26) and lock washers (27)
4 Remove vent valve (12)
5 Place base of vent valve in vice and
remove connected elbows
6 Turn vent valve in vice so vice jaws are
gripping flats machined on base of vent
valve
7 Remove hydraulic cylinder (46)
8 Remove piston and packing (47) from
cylinder (46) If leakage is evident from
side of hydraulic cylinder,
replace packing
9 Remove packing assembly (49) If grease
leakage is evident from side of hydraulic
cylinder, replace packing assembly
10 Clean and inspect needle (48) and valve
seat (50) for damage by nicks, grooves or
scoring Replace if damaged
11 Remove valve seat (50) from valve
body (52)
12 Remove and replace gasket (51)
Reverse above procedure to reassemble
1 Needle (48) and hydraulic cylinder (46)
should be coated with oil or grease to
assist in assembly
2 Tighten valve seat (50) into body (52)
using 25 ft-lbf (34 Nm)
Tighten hydraulic cylinder (46) onto valve
body (52) using 100 ft-lbf (135 Nm)
Follower
If follower foam appears to be damaged or
does not wipe sides of container effectively
service may be necessary († fig. 6, page 13;
fig. IPB 1, page 15; and fig. IPB 2, page 16)
1 Disconnect hydraulic supply from pump
2 Remove bolts (5) and eyebolts (17) which
attach cover (19) to reservoir (22)
3 Lift pump (30), vent valve (12) and drum
cover (19) out of reservoir (22)
4 Unscrew low level indicator (55) from
follower plate (64)
5 Remove follower assembly (38) from
reservoir (22)
6 Wipe off excess grease from follower
assembly (38)
7 Loosen and remove nuts (65) on top of
follower assembly (38)
8 Remove follower weight (64) and
follower foam (66) Replace with new
foam
9 Remove and save spacers (67) from
inside of foam before discarding foam
Reverse above procedure to reassemble
making sure long bolts (69) are staggered
with small ones (68)
NOTE
Do not bend housing tube during
removal of pump, vent valve and
drum cover
10
Grease level indicator
If indicator pin appears to drop prematurely
or water is noticeable on top of follower,
indicator seal (56) may be damaged
(† fig. 5, page 12; fig. IPB 1, page 15; and
fig. IPB 2, page 16)
1 Disconnect hydraulic supply from pump
2 Remove bolts (5) and eyebolts (17) which
attach cover (19) to reservoir (22)
3 Inspect reservoir gasket seal (20) for
damage If damage is apparent then
replace gasket seal
4 Lift pump (30), vent valve (12) and drum
cover (19) out of reservoir (22)
5 Remove retaining ring (54) from indica-
tor rod assembly (55)
6 Hold indicator plug (59) with wrench
while removing indicator nut (57)
7 Remove and replace o-ring (56)
8 Reassemble in reverse of above
procedure Torque indicator nut (57) to
20 ft-lbf (27 Nm)
