Music Distribution Speakers
MODELS: IS-903, IS-905, IS-908
NuTone Music Distribution Speakers are designed to be used with
NuTone Radio Intercom Systems for receiving music or voice only;
intercom calls can be heard but not answered through the Music
Distribution Speaker(s). The speakers may also be used with a
stereo amplifier.
With a stereo amplifier
NuTone Music Distribution speakers have 25 Ohms impedance to
match NuTone Radio-Intercom Systems.. The speaker(s) must
have an impedance equal to or greater than the output impedance
of the associated amplifier. Therefore, the music speakers can also
be used in a stereo application in which the amplifier impedance is
4 or 8 Ohms.
Three 25 Ohm speakers connected in parallel will have 8 Ohms
total impedance. Six 25 Ohm speakers connected in parallel will
have 4 Ohms total impedance.
A maximum of three speakers per channel may be used in a
stereo system if the amplifier has 8 Ohms output. Or, a maximum
six speakers per channel if the amplifier output is 4 Ohms. Be
certain the amplifier power rating does not exceed the speaker
power ratings: IS-903 and IS-905 should be connected to an
amplifier rated at 25 to 70 watts maximum and IS-908 should be
connected to an amplifier rated at 50 to 100 watts maximum.
Refer to Figure 3 for connecting speakers in a stereo
application. Note: Do not use the NuTone IC-901 Volume Control
when the speakers are connected to a stereo system. It is not
recommended to use NuTone Music Distribution Speakers in a
stereo system using speakers from another manufacturer.
INSTALLATION OF IS-903 SERIES
SURFACE MOUNT SPEAKER
NOTE: The speaker may be mounted in a vertical or horizontal
position and the NuTone logo on the grille can be adjusted
accordingly. If necessary, apply a small amount of rubber based
adhesive to the logo from the inside of the grille.
These speakers are designed for indoor or outdoor locations.
When used outdoors, locate the speaker in a protected area where
it will not be exposed to direct sunlight. Using the mounting bracket
and screws provided, mount the speakers at a convenient height:
6-8 feet above the floor or ground surface. Once the speaker is
mounted, affix the two felt pads provided at each knob on the
bracket so that the bracket is secure and the speaker is rigid.

IN-WALL SPEAKERS
Refer to Figure 4 for suggested speaker layouts in a stereo
application. Placing the speaker close to the corner of the wall will
boost low frequencies. You can install the speaker vertically or
horizontally. It is preferable to flip the speaker so that the large
woofer is at the bottom if the speaker is mounted vertically. Also,
rotate the NuTone logo vertically or horizontally as desired. Apply a
small amount of the black acoustic damping material provided in the
plastic bag from the inside of the grille if the logo is loose. This
material may be placed between the grille and the speaker panel if
the grille vibrates when you play music.
