POWER
The 849 can be powered by any mixer or console provid-
ing 12 to 48 Vdc phantom power, or by a phantom power
supply such as the Shure PS1A.
Alternately, the 849 can be powered by a single 1.5-volt
AA alkaline battery. A new alkaline battery will provide up to
10,000 hours of continuous microphone operation.
NOTE: The on/off switch only affects the audio signal—
it will not turn off the battery power. To avoid battery
drain, remove the battery when not using the micro-
phone for extended periods of time.
INSTALLING THE BATTERY
1. Disconnect the microphone cable.
2. Unscrew the handle by turning it counterclockwise (from
top).
3. Slide the handle away from the grille, exposing the bat-
tery compartment.
4. Insert a new battery (or replace the old battery), observ-
ing the polarity marking in the compartment.
5. Slide the handle back into place and tighten.
WINDSCREEN
Use the optional windscreen (A3WS) in windy conditions
and in speech or vocal applications where breath noise is a
problem.
